Taking creative courses online, what are your options?

Wherever your creative interests lie, there is bound to be a course online to help you get started and improve your skills. From filmmaking to dressmaking and everything in between, the list of courses will leave you spoilt for choice.

Two of the most popular online learning sites are Skillshare and Udemy.

Udemy works on a pay-per-course system. Prices start at around R299.99 per course. Once you’ve signed up and purchased a course you’ll have access to it at any time thereafter. The great part about this is that should the course presenter update one of their modules, you will have access to the updated module.

The benefit of using Udemy is that you only pay for the courses you want.

Skillshare works on a subscription basis. You can sign up for Skillshare and try them for free. At the time of this post, the trial period is one month. This should be enough time for you to start off with a few courses. If you don’t want to carry on beyond your trial period, just go into your account settings and cancel the automatic renewal.

Should you decide to carry on with a paid subscription, the cost per month is US$15.00. Something to note, if you pay for a full year upfront Skillshare does offer a discount.

With Skillshare you get to take as many courses as you want, as long as you continue to subscribe. If you think you are not going to be using Skillshare for a few months, then you can pause your subscription for up to three months.
